Empires at War is a game series that simulates battles of the mid-19th century. The system deliberately adopts the perspective of the top generals of the time. Command control, morale and choice of combat tactics are given great attention.
Chancellorsville is a simulation of the battle between Confederate and Union forces fought 1 to 6 May 1863. Chancellorsville was a brilliant tactical victory for Confederate commander Robert E. Lee, who outmaneuvered Union General Joseph Hooker.
Plevna is a simulation of one of the critical actions of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, in which a Russian army assaulted Ottoman positions only to be bloodily repulsed.
Together, Chancellorsville & Plevna demonstrate some critical principles of grand tactics in that era, as well as showing the contrast between European and American ways of fighting.
